As I understand it, the mentally ill and people with intellectual developmental disabilities were handled by the same systems until recently in Western history. When did intellectual disabilities start to be treated as a separate condition from mental illness?

The Philippines and Hawaii were both American territories during WW2, however, we only make out the attack on Pearl Harbor to be significant and “important” enough for the US to go to war, even though the Philippines was literally occupied by Japan. Why is this?

England was conquered by Normans in 1066, and as a result a flood of French vocabulary entered English, practically changing it into a new language. Ireland was conquered by Normans in 1169, and yet no such influx of French words into Irish occurred. Why not?
